STAR Online Learning System (SOLS) is designed to
provide preschool, elementary, and secondary students access to remote
learning opportunities. Through evidence-based lesson plans and a scope and
sequence that provides scaffolded learning opportunities, teachers can
provide students individualized instruction.
SOLS has three strands that have been leveled to meet the continuum of needs of
all students and includes content that can be individualized to meet each
student’s IEP goals. Instructional strategies are centered on
evidence-based practices appropriate for students with autism and other
developmental disabilities, to teach skills in critical areas.
Strand A sessions are for students who may have
difficulty attending to the instructor during an online session. The focus
of these sessions will be guiding caregivers to teach students new skills both
during the online sessions and throughout the day.
Strand B sessions are for students who are able
to attend for short periods of time and will be a combination of direct
teaching and caregiver coaching.
Strand C sessions are for students who are able to attend for the entire
session and will be direct teaching between student and teacher.
Lesson plans provide teachers with presentation materials, guides, and
instructional content to conduct lessons.
SOLS includes professional development webinars, providing educators both the
materials and training, to ensure successful remote learning sessions for
teachers, students, and families. Research has shown that when teachers
and families collaborate in a student’s instructional programming, it
results in positive learning outcomes in communication, academics, and
social skills.
